Research Area 2: Materials and Manufacturing for Synergistic Effects
Research Area 2 of the Materials Science in Extreme Environments University Research Alliance (MSEE URA) focuses on Materials and Manufacturing for Synergistic Effects.
This research is supported by the focus areas outlined below.
- Focus Area 1: Multimodal Shielding – Develop canonical models that relate application requirements to fundamental material parameters and objectives to guide the URA’s materials design. CURRENTLY DELAYED
- Focus Area 2: Tailoring Chemistry via Materials – Develop new energetic defeat systems with a team of experts and energetic systems evaluation and modeling with the ultimate goal of intelligently designing a new class of multiple-characteristic, time/temperature defeat energetics amenable to manufacturing scale-up.
- Focus Area 3: Characterize and Predict Physical/Chemical Effects in Turbulent Environments – Combine advanced highly detailed hydrocode modeling with in situ validation and uncertainty quantification to develop a rapid screening tool that encompasses all the primary physical/chemical processes that occur in a fire ball.
