The Artificial Intelligence for Materials Design (AIMD) Laboratory is an autonomous AI-driven closed-loop system for rapid materials design and discovery in extreme dynamic environments. The AIMD Laboratory is designed with a focus on developing and integrating high-throughput capabilities with central robotic automation and data/computing infrastructure. Within the lab, once specimens are fabricated and processed, a centralized robotic automation subsystem moves specimens from one subsystem to another as dictated by protocols from the computational subsystem. The subsystems include sample preparation, characterization, testing, and storage. All efforts within and outside of the AIMD Laboratory link to an edge computing capability for data management, design guidance, and robotic control.
