HT-MAX research strategy

HT-MAX takes a highly structured approach to research, with phases of integration, exploration, and discovery overlapping and informing each other as efforts progress in different areas.

A table showing the timeline (years 1 through 4) and research phases (integration, exploration, and discovery) for HT-MAX. Each year moves progressively from integration and exploration towards discovery.

Integration

Establish an integrated framework and demonstrate with silicon carbide (SiC) as a model material at variable rates, temperatures, and microstructures.

Exploration

Intelligent exploration of expanded materials space – nitrides, carbides, borides, ceramic/ceramic composites, and compositionally complex ceramics (CCC)

Discovery

Apply the multi-level discovery framework to a broader set of brittle materials, mechanisms, and applications.
