We are a diverse and highly cohesive community of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, doctoral students, undergraduate researchers, and visiting scholars. We pride ourselves on being highly supportive of each other, and we are intentionally collaborative with other researchers, other groups, and a wide range of institutions.
Our graduate student alumni are about equally distributed among national labs, academia, and industry. We explicitly believe in educating our doctoral students for all three sectors, not just academia. Our postdoctoral alumni are predominantly in academia, with about 20% in industry.
We integrate both experimental and modeling efforts in each research project, and we have a strong focus on the integration of data science and machine learning approaches into our research directions - but we are users of AI/ML methods rather than developers of such methods.
