We are pleased to welcome the two MICA students who will be joining HEMI for the 2020 HEMI/MICA Extreme Arts Summer Internship Program: Chelsea Conrad and Danielle Duplain. This is the fifth year that HEMI and MICA have hosted this program.
Chelsea Conrad is currently completing a one-year Master of Arts in Illustration at MICA. Wielding over seven years of graphic design experience, she is primarily interested in editorial illustration and motion graphics videos for her internship. Chelsea plans to work with Professor Sarah Horst (Dept. of Earth and Planetary Sciences) over the summer and observe her research on atmospheric chemistry.
Danielle Duplain is a graduate teaching assistant within the Architecture Design Department and the Illustration Department at MICA. She is interested in combining her digital experience in Adobe After Effects and GIF-making with her interest in soft sculpture for her internship. Danielle intends to work with Professor Stavros Gaitanaros (Dept. of Civil and Systems Engineering) and his research on 3D-printed materials over the summer.
The Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute (HEMI) and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) joined together in 2015 to create the HEMI/MICA Extreme Arts program. As one of the inaugural initiatives, the HEMI/MICA Extreme Arts Summer Program/Internship presented the challenge of exploring visual representations of the HEMI organization, structure, current research, and relationships. Visual representations could include, but were not limited to: storyboarding and narrative, animation, photography, graphic design, interactive arts or products, games, information visualization, illustration, or drawing.
