TITLE: Delamination in Sandwich Composites: Identification and Mitigation Strategies
ABSTRACT: Interfacial delamination is a big challenge for any composite industry which can happen as a result of mechanical loads (impact, shock, multiaxial loads, temperature differences etc) as well as during manufacturing and processing (such as drilling holes). This delamination is usually hard to detect and may even lead to catastrophic failures. Based on our previous work, methodologies are presented for detection of these delaminations for sandwich composites using embedded fiber-optics and some mitigation measures are also proposed.
