Deadline: HEMI/APL AM&D Seed Grant Proposal

The Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute and the Applied Physics Lab are pleased to announce the HEMI/APL A&MD Missile Defense Seed Grant Opportunity.  The goal of this program is to provide seed funding to advance the fundamental science, applied research, and engineering development associated with air and missile defense.

Directions of particular interest include those discussed during the HEMI/A&MD Workshop on July 21, 2022. These may include, but are not limited to, the following:

– Improved understanding of erosion phenomena encountered at hypersonic conditions

– High hypersonic impacts of energetic materials on materials capable of operating at high temperatures

– Performance and durability of material systems for enhancing operation at hypersonic conditions

– Material systems capable of mitigating extreme environments encountered in hypersonic flight.

Eligibility
This opportunity is open to HEMI Fellows, faculty members who have a primary appointment in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or Civil and Systems Engineering, and Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) Staff who can serve as Principal and Co-Investigators. Each proposal should have at least one PI from HEMI or the listed departments, and at least one PI from APL.
