Membership Levels and Information

Since 2012 HEMI has grown exponentially. In order to differentiate between several classes of HEMI Members, we use the following descriptors and parameters to best define the roles within our community.

HEMI Fellow (JHU tenure-track faculty, JHU research faculty, JHUAPL Professional Staff)
Must be able to be a PI (not just a co-I) on a research grant, as defined by Homewood Academic Council. All of the privileges accorded by Academic Council are de jure available to HEMI Fellows. Must be approved by the HEMI Executive Committee.

HEMI Affiliate (JHU teaching professors, JHU lecturers, adjunct professors, JHU research staff, APL research staff)
JHU-appointed individuals who work with HEMI but cannot be PI on a research grant. Require a Fellow sponsor for non-Homewood appointees. Become a HEMI Affiliate

Postdoctoral Fellow (JHU postodc)
JHU-appointed individuals who work with HEMI but cannot be PI on a research grant.

HEMI Student (JHU doctoral, Master’s and undergraduate students)
Students must apply through the Whiting School of Engineering or the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences to a department and before being considered for HEMI. Must have a HEMI Fellow as their advisor.       PhD and Master’s applicants             Undergraduate applicants

HEMI Collaborator (external: non-JHU faculty, ARL scientists, other types of external scientists on a case-by-case basis).
Should have a Fellow sponsor. Become a HEMI Collaborator
