We are pleased to welcome Dr. Rama Venkatasubramanian as a new member of HEMI. He is currently a Senior Researcher and Team Leader in Energy and Thermal Management at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory with broad expertise in semiconductor materials and devices.

His research specifically focuses on energy conversion for thermoelectrics and photovoltaics, thermal management, optoelectronics, infra-red detectors, as well as applications in biological and health-related sectors. Much like our own ideals, he is “Excited by curiosity-driven basic research with a focus on big picture impact and applications.” He studied Electrical Engineering with a B.Sc. (1983) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and earned his Ph.D. (1988) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Dr. Venkatasubramanian is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (2012) and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2011) for his contributions to nanoscale thermoelectric. He also holds two R&D 100 awards for his work on superlattice electronics in 2002 and 2010.
