Dr. Victor Nakano, HEMI Executive Program Director (EPD) attended the Advanced Materials for Defense Summit hosted by the Defense Strategies Institute in Washington, DC on July 18-19, 2017. The theme of the summit was “Leveraging Advanced Materials and Processes to Strengthen America’s Defense.” HEMI’s Center for Materials in Extreme Dynamic Environments and Professor Jamie Guest’s topology optimization research were highlighted in several presentations. Speakers included senior representatives from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, DTRA, DARPA, Missile Defense Agency, NIST, NASA, US Army RDECOM, PEO for Ground Combat Systems, and the Army Research Laboratory.
