Friday marked the conclusion of HEMI’s fifth annual Mach Conference in Annapolis, Maryland. 236 attendees participated in this scientific conference which included representatives from academia, government, and industry. Five distinguished plenary speakers highlighted the three-day event with 116 session presentations and 47 posters. The conference welcomed international attendees from the United Kingdom, Germany, China, South Korea, Singapore, Belgium, Canada and the Netherlands.

The Mach Conference showcases the state of the art of multiscale research in materials with an emphasis on advancing the fundamental science and engineering of materials and structures in extreme environments, facilitating substantial intellectual discussion about the basic mechanical behavior of materials and structures. In the spirit of the Materials Genome Initiative, the conference includes discussions of experiments, modeling and processing of materials with an emphasis on strong interactions between the academic science community and researchers within government agencies, national laboratories, and international institutions.

We are grateful to all of you who attended and hope to see you again for next year’s conference (Apri 4-6, 2018)!
