We are pleased to announce that ASM International has elected Timothy P. Weihs, professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, as a Fellow of the Society. Fellows are recognized for making significant contributions to the field of materials science and engineering.

Tim was selected “for fundamental understanding, development, invention, and successful commercialization of reactive metallic materials and structures and for innovation in mentoring and educating future materials engineers and entrepreneurs.”

He will receive the honor formally at an ASM awards dinner to be held during the Materials Science & Technology Conference & Exhibition in Pittsburgh in October.

Earlier this year, Tim also was awarded a Fulbright award through the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for his 12-month sabbatical to the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.

In addition to his work in the Department of Materials Science, Tim served as director of the Center for Leadership Education from 2010 – 2017 and is a member of the HEMI’s Executive Committee.
