First principles (FP) modeling is used to investigate equations of state (EOS) and optical, transport, and kinetic properties of matter in warm dense regimes, laser ramp compression experiments, and UQ. Initial materials of interest will be minerals present in the impact studies in Focus Area 2, Materials Constitutive Models.
Research Area 1 of the Materials Science in Extreme Environments University Research Alliance (MSEE URA) focuses on Material Properties and Failure.
In Research Area 1, the MSEE URA will quantify materials properties and failure and their associated uncertainties in conditions relevant to weapons of mass destruction (WMD) attacks using advanced experiments and models.
