Julie A. Skipper received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences (Medical Physics and Engineering track) and her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in 1991, both from Wright State University. She joined the Air Force Institute of Technology’s Department of Engineering Physics as a Research Assistant Professor in 2024. Her research focuses radiation detection and measurement, positron spectroscopy, and novel materials for quantum applications. She has authored approximately 20 scientific publications, holds two patents, and has executed over $7M of sponsored research funding as PI or co-PI. She currently serves as the Deputy Director of AFIT’s Nuclear Expertise for Advancing Technologies (NEAT) Center, teaches courses in the Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction graduate certificate program, and mentors graduate students (PhD: 2 complete; MS: 8 complete, 1 in progress). In addition to academic pursuits, Dr. Skipper serves on the Executive Board of the South Ohio section of the Society of Women Engineers, is a faculty advisor for the Ohio Eta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, serves on a local Institutional Review Board, and has volunteered with the FIRST Robotics program since 2007.
