Predict and understand the interaction of high-intensity X-rays with near-surface materials.
Research Area 4 of the Materials Science in Extreme Environments University Research Alliance (MSEE URA) focuses on Photon-Material.
In Research Area 4, the MSEE URA will aim to understand the fundamental interactions between intense photon fluxes and the surfaces of materials so as to better predict potential outcomes from nuclear events.
This research is supported by the focus areas outlined below.
- Focus Area 1: X-ray Induced Blow-off and Plasma – Predict and understand the interaction of high-intensity X-rays with near-surface materials.
- Focus Area 2: Direct Laser Impulse – Understand and optimize the ability of high-power lasers to simulate X-ray blow-off and thermomechanical shock.
