Above: Schematic of Emulsion-Assisted Milling
What was transitioned?
Emulsion-Assisted Milling (EAM) to support researchers at NSWC IHD in the development of advanced fuel ingredients for programs. NSWC IHD scientists are adapting EAM to create composite fuels for use in energetic formulations. They also utilize and adapt the experimental methodologies developed at NJIT to quantify the ignition and combustion properties of the fuels.
Who was involved?
NJIT: PI: Dreizin; Scientist: Schoenitz; PhD student: McNanna
Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD): Demitrios Stamatis, Emma Skekel
How does this transition support DTRA’s mission to provide cross-cutting solutions to enable the Department of Defense to counter WMDs and emerging threats?
This transition supports the DoD mission to develop advanced energetic materials for new explosives and other applications.
What is the current status of the transition?
A new program supporting the NJIT work with NSWC IHD through the Naval Engineering Education Consortium (NEEC) has been established.
